Industrial Design Definition

Industrial design is the study of function and form and the connections between products, users and the environment.

Typically, industrial design professionals work on small-scale designs rather than the overall design of complex systems such as buildings or ships.

Industrial Design

Industrial designers do not usually design the motors, circuits, or transmissions that make machines move, but they may influence technical aspects through usability design and formal relationships.
Often, they work with other professionals, such as engineers who design the mechanical aspects of a product, to ensure functionality and manufacturability, and with marketing personnel to identify and meet customer needs and expectations.
Industrial design is the professional service of creating and developing concepts and specifications that optimize the function, value and appearance of products and systems for the mutual benefit of users and manufacturers.
